Farewell to Christmas with Cockburn

December 11, 1994 brings us to our fourth Christmas visit with Bruce Cockburn and assorted guest stars. This time around, it is the multi-talented songstress and Grammy winner Nanci Griffith.

A few years removed from her guest appearance with the Chieftains on their stellar effort An Irish Evening: Live at the Grand Opera House Belfast, Griffith brings her big-time talents to some seasonally appropriate tunes like “Shepherds” and Wexford Carol” while supporting her latest effort, Flyer, with “On Grafton Street” and “Goin’ Back to Georgia,” co-written with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows.

Cockburn digs deep into his bag for 1971’s “One Day I Walk” from his album High Winds White Sky and “Deer Dancing Around a Broken Mirror” which first appeared in 1977 on the live album Circles in the Stream.

All in all, it’s another great holiday show from Cockburn and friends that deserves to be a part of your holiday musical catalog.

While this is the fourth and last edition of our Cockburn Christmas series on ATV, Bruce says in a 1999 interview with Guitarist Magazine that there were five altogether. I’m assuming the missing show is either 1990 or 1995.  If you have it, please let us know and we’ll be sure to post it for everyone’s continued yuletide enjoyment.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you from the Stereo Dictator and the jolly staff at ATV.
