You know, people come and go from your life, but inevitably there are good things that come out of the experience. This musical connection came courtesy of one of those life experiences.
Liza Bundy is a very talented young musician that at age 16, is making music so good that it kills me. Okay, it doesn’t really kill me, because I’m still here, but I like it a lot. When I first met Liza, she was writing stories at an age that most kids are doing anything to keep from writing, or reading. And on that particular summer, I got to see her get up at karaoke with her dad, and belt out an impressive vocal that sounded like it should have been coming from a woman, but indeed, it was instead coming from that “kid” standing in front of you. It was pretty amazing.
So I wasn’t surprised to come across her first home recordings a few months ago on Myspace, and it wasn’t long after that that she was headed to Nashville to record a couple of songs with a friend. The Nashville tracks aren’t mixed just yet, but in the mean time, Liza has posted a new home recording, a great track called “Just In Case.”
I think it’s a great song, and so honest. I particularly like the long instrumental moments of contemplation where it just slips to softly strummed guitar. I really like the songs she’s doing now, and I can’t wait to hear the stuff that she’s doing a couple of years from now.
Liza describes her music:
I make simple music with lyrics that I write in hopes they’ll get a message across. I play piano, guitar, and sing. Sarah tells me I’m ‘folk rock’, so for all intents and purposes, I am a ‘fock’ artist.
Check it out right here.
Thanks for listening!
