I need better connections in Youngstown (that’s in Ohio, for those of you that are either unfamiliar with the Springsteen song of the same name or living in one of the other states not named Ohio).
In the past few weeks, I’ve missed concerts from both Eddie Money and Bryan Adams in the Youngstown area. Adams is still touring acoustically and after hearing his Bare Bones acoustic live release, I don’t feel so bad about missing that one.
The Money Man on the other hand, played a series of Acoustic Christmas shows, which made my eyes bug out when I heard the news and realized that I had missed a tour date within driving distance. You have to understand how much I LOVE the Unplug It In acoustic EP that he put out in the early ’90s. It’s one of my great concert regrets that I missed his acoustic tour during the same era, which I believe played at Nautica Stage.
The good news for both you and me is that Money is selling copies of two of the Acoustic Christmas shows and that thought makes me salivate, thinking about what the setlist might be. The tour is becoming an annual event and reading this interview with Eddie about last year’s show, it certainly sounds like a fun evening of music.
Perhaps I’ll get a chance to catch it next year.
On a semi-related note, I thought that nearly everybody would be familiar with the Eddie Money catalog by now. “Two Tickets To Paradise,” “Take Me Home Tonight,” “Where’s The Party,” etc. etc. etc. Apparently, that’s a big assumption to make. Do you remember that one song “Shakin’ ?” You know, the one also known as “Shake In” and “Shake It?”
Oh yeah.
The next time you see a copy of The Essential Eddie Money, chances are good that it would make a great gift for that someone special in your life. Think of it as an educational gift, because everybody needs to go shakin’ with the Money Man – they don’t know what they’re missing.
Since we’re now in a warm and fuzzy gift giving kind of mood, I’d like to share one more musical gift with you to wrap up our series of various Christmas shows that we’ve been posting here this week (and as far as I can tell, Bruce Cockburn is nowhere to be found on this one).
Peter Cetera’s former backing band Chicago (that’s a joke for y’all) put out a Christmas album in 1998 and played a holiday show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles that same year which was recorded for radio broadcast. For years, I’ve had a broadcast disc with an edited version of the performance and I pull it out at least once a year to share it with a fellow fan. Just a few days ago, I acquired a longer version of the show that features a few more tunes and I figured that there would be several people interested in hearing it. ‘Tis the season, so check it out and enjoy!
(And for the Champlin fans, as was the case on the Night and Day big band album, I thought he had some great tunes on the Christmas disc – it’s highly recommended if you don’t have it.
Happy holidays to all!
