The Popdose Mellowmas guys have been drunk on holiday eggnog for nearly two weeks now, but I have a news item that will grab the attention of Popdose majordomo Jeff Giles (he always insists that we should call him “Majordomo Executus” in public for some odd reason).
It seems that The Damnwells have finally set a release date for their new album!
*crowd applause*
Creatively titled No One Listens To The Band Anymore, Damnwells front man Alex Dezen shared in an email update that the album will be the first release on the newly created PledgeMusic Recordings label, spawned from the company of the same name that provided the fund-raising vehicle (similar to Kickstarter, etc) for this new album. No One Listens To The Band Anymore will be released on March 1st.
(And by the way, in that same email update, he shared that he has recently learned that John Oates is a Damnwells fan)
Here are some official quotes for ya:
“Signing The Damnwells was a no-brainer,” said Benji Rogers, founder and CEO of PledgeMusic and PledgeMusic Recordings. “They’re talented, driven and adored by their fans. The Damnwells were among the first bands to really use the PledgeMusic system to its full potential by continually engaging fans through the posting of their Pledgers Only Updates. They naturally understood that it was about the journey and not just the transaction and rewarded their fans accordingly with not just incredible access, but also with unreleased music, videos, photos and blogs.”
PledgeMusic Recordings offers artists an unprecedented monetary split in the artists’ favour. Artists retain all rights, ownership and publishing while PledgeMusic Recordings provides the guidance and expertise that artists have traditionally looked to labels for.
“The deal that PledgeMusic Recordings offered us was really low stress with a lot of upside if handled by the right people,” said Alex Dezen of The Damnwells. “We had a great experience with PledgeMusic during our campaign and we’re confident that they are the right people.”
Pledge supporters for this new album had access to advance demos and other rare recordings, so after hearing several rough samples, I’m pretty excited to hear the final product. One Last Century, the previous Damnwells album remains as one of my favorite random musical discoveries and if you haven’t had the chance to discover it, it’s still available for free download here!
The title suggests otherwise, but I can assure you that I’ll be looking forward to hearing No One Listens To The Band Anymore!
