Leather lunged ’80s rocker Pat Benatar dropped one of the surprise hits of the summer this week with the release of Between a Heart and a Rock Place, her new autobiography (written with Patsy Bale Cox) that chronicles 30+ years of crazy life in the music business. This book is one of the best rock books that I’ve read since the Warren Zevon book from a couple of years ago.
Although Between a Heart and a Rock Place might lack the large amount of scandalous moments found within the pages of the Zevon book (Pat’s not that kind of girl), it more than makes up for that void by putting you smack dab in the middle of the recording studio for the biggest albums of Benatar’s career. (Read my complete review of the book for Popdose right here.)
Thanks to the fine folks at HarperCollins, I’ve got five copies of Between a Heart and a Rock Place to give away to a few lucky ATV readers. Click here and send me an email with “Benatar” in the subject line for your chance to win! (UPDATE: We got our winners – thank you so much!)
You can also check out a sample chapter from the book right here.
One of my favorite Benatar moments is “Everybody Lay Down,” the lead single from her 1993 album Gravity’s Rainbow. I’ll leave you with a live performance of that one (plus an interview), recorded live on Arsenio Hall. It’s Youtube moments like this one that make me miss ol’ Arsenio….
