Greetings music lovers! It’s time for another trip to the Stereo Dictator’s massive musical archives in search of a show of sonic and social significance to the rock and roll community.
Today’s installment is in memory of a true rock and roll legend, Ronald Belford Scott, better known as the Problem Child himself, Bon Scott.

Bon died on February 19, 1980 at the age of 33 just as AC/DC was becoming one of the biggest international rock acts of its time. Highway to Hell had broken the Top 20 on the U.S. album charts and the band’s back catalog was seeing a worldwide resurgence. 1980 was destined to be a breakthrough year, though it would ultimately happen with Brian Johnson as lead singer.
To commemorate the power and brilliance of AC/DC with Bon at the helm, I offer you a well-known radio broadcast which originated from the Veterans Memorial in Columbus, Ohio on September 9, 1978.
Blazing its way across America and the world in support of the Powerage album, the band rips through a ten-song set featuring stalwarts like “Live Wire,” “Bad Boy Boogie,” “Let There Be Rock,” and the seldom-played “Gone Shootin.”
Bon is having fun, the band is t-i-g-h-t, and the crowd is stoked. The rock is rolling hard enough that the security team gets uptight and is eventually called out by Bon for being too rough on the fans. Rock and roll rebellion live on the radio, those were the days…
For some folks, it’s John Lennon or Kurt Cobain or Dimebag Darrell. For the SD, Bon is front and center on my Mount Rushmore of dead rock stars alongside Keith Moon, Alex Harvey, Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, and John Entwistle among others.
His unique voice, tremendous stage presence and songwriting abilities were a perfect complement to the sheer guitar attack of Angus and Malcolm Young backed by the ever-solid rhythm section of Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd.
Despite the astonishing success of Back In Black, AC/DC was never the same without him, which was to be expected. What wasn’t expected was the degree to which the band missed Bon’s songwriting, his stage presence, and his rock and roll spirit.

I just spent five years living in Sydney, Australia. I've never seen AC/DC. I bought tix last year for the upcoming 22nd Feb show in Sydney…and then I moved to London.
I had tickets…in the front section up against the stage…to see Chuck Berry's Aussie kin…on their home turf, and I moved away. Damn…
I gave them to a worth fan and asked for a t-shirt, a ticket sub and a few fist pumps in my honour.
