My pal Rob emailed me last week with the question, “What would the Holidays be without giving away a Lionel Train Car?” He had no idea that he had just emailed the semi-authority on Lionel Model Trains. While that is a slight exaggeration, Lionel Trains did play a part in my early youth.

The 12 Boots of Christmas: Ian Wants Three Things for Christmas
With Santa being a creature of habit, it’s no surprise that we are returning to Sweden for Boot # 9 in the 12 Boots of Christmas series. Welcome this time to lovely Lucianatten, apparently the home of flaming candle princesses, for a radio broadcast with British new wave pioneers, Ian Dury & the Blockheads.
Good Listening: Steve Poltz at Daytrotter
Kudos to Jeff Giles for hipping me to the just-posted Daytrotter Session with Steve Poltz. Anybody who knows Poltz will know that he doesn’t mess around, so while some artists might play an unreleased song or two for Daytrotter, Steve played nine. As I said on Twitter, if you’re not hip to Poltz – get […]

Cage Match: Xmas Edition Vol. 1: Paul McCartney vs. Billy Squier
While discussing recent Cage Match activities, my co-worker Rebecca suggested a battle between a couple of Christmas tunes. Suddenly, an additional idea sprung into my head – a holiday themed Cage Match each week leading up to Christmas! It was so simple…..and why hadn’t I thought of this easy cop-out great idea sooner! We’d been […]
Lloyd Cole: Past, Present and Future
While perusing the Winchester’s schedule on Sunday night, my jaw dropped at the show announced for January 27, 2010: Lloyd Cole Trio. I immediately flashed back to 2006. In November of that year, I flew to Cleveland for a few days, with the express purpose of catching Placebo at the Agora and Cole at the […]
