With Santa being a creature of habit, it’s no surprise that we are returning to Sweden for Boot # 9 in the 12 Boots of Christmas series.
Welcome this time to lovely Lucianatten, apparently the home of flaming candle princesses, for a radio broadcast with British new wave pioneers, Ian Dury & the Blockheads.
Fresh off the release of their third album, Laughter, the band is in the midst of its “Soft as a Baby’s Bottom Tour” which was an international success despite mixed reviews for the new release.
Dury’s personal demons have caught up with him by this time, creating a tense atmosphere among the band members. Despite the pressure, they come through with a stellar 15 song set which includes an ode to Dury’s musical hero, “Sweet Gene Vincent,” the controversial “Sueperman’s Big Sister,” the million-selling “Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick,” and the legendary “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.”
Don’t miss former Ornette Coleman sideman and noted jazz trumpeter Don Cherry working his groove throughout the show.
So grab a candle, light up, and enjoy the eclectic sounds of Santa’s favorite band of rogue U.K. new wavers.
Now, about Ian’s wish list…

I could've sworn that the title of this post was going to merit the following Dury reference, and one of my favorite bits in his catalog:
“Reasons to be cheerful: PART THREE (1, 2, 3)!”
