Touch, Peel, and Hate this Song

I have an idea for a little bit of audience participation. As you know, we’re all about the audience participation here at Addicted to Vinyl!

I’d like your help in making a special mix of annoying songs that you never want to hear on the radio, ever again. Now, these might be good songs, they might be crummy songs, and what they all have in common is that they have been overplayed to the point that your ears bleed just thinking about them.

Here are some sample cuts to get you going:

Days of the New “Touch, Peel, & Stand”

Alice in Chains “Man in the Box”

Marcy Playground “Sex and Candy”

AC/DC “Highway to Hell”

Rush “Working Man”

Metallica “Enter Sandman”

Pink Floyd “Another Brick In The Wall”

I’ll admit, there are some classics on that list. But aren’t there also other cuts on some of those albums that you’d rather hear?

Discuss.

P.S.

Any DJ will tell you the awful truth that people really do call to request/hear these songs, almost as if they’re new!

Yeah maaaan, I’ve got a reee-quest, can you play “Man In The Box” by Alice in Chains?

What the hell?

  1. Cracker, “Low”
Nickelback, “How You Remind Me” (always hated, but come on. ugh. go away.)
    Barenaked Ladies, “One Week”
    Better Than Ezra, “Good”
    Collective Soul, “Shine”
    Soundgarden, “Black Hole Sun”
    Everclear, “Santa Monica”
    anything by Sublime

  2. Let me start by saying I hate the radio, I hate listening to the same 15 songs in rotation all day and try to avoid it at all cost.

Some that came to mind immediately.

    Sexy Back – Justin Timberlake
Right Round – Flo Rida (I HATE THIS SONG and it was on every time I turned the radio on for like three months)
    Wonderwall – Oasis
Livin' la Vida Loca – Ricky Martin
    That damn Macarena song!
I’ll Be There For You – The Rembrandts
now days anything by Taylor Swift.

Radio could never ruin Enter Sandman for me, I still dig that song a lot!

  3. Oh come on…if you're going to go by horrible DJ requests may I submit “Old Time Rock and Roll”, “Macarana”, “Friends in Low Places”, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, “Baby Got Back”, “Margaritaville”, etc. By radio standards I offer “I Only Wanna Be With You”, “What's Up”, “Who Let the Dogs Out”, “I Kissed a Girl” (Either one, really), “Single Ladies”, “I Was Meant For You”, etc.

Gawd, I could never run out of songs to add to this list…

  4. it's pretty easy to get sick of anything on the radio these days. If there was a station out there that'd make a commitment to play half an hour of new songs every hour and only bust out the occasion anything (I'm talking any format) then I'd give it a shot. I remember working in Boston and hearing Creeds “with arms wide open” as well as “higher” every hour during my 8 hour work day, 5 days a week. if you didn't catch that, that means I heard “with arms wide open” and “higher” every hour of my work week, meaning 16 times a day I would hear creed. It didn't sell me on their music at all, only drove me insane with rage. On that same station they would play David Gray's “please forgive me” once in an eight hour cycle, and that was more then enough to convince me that David was a competent and enjoyable songwriter, so I bought his record. Anyhow, enough of radio until it starts playing music like a dysfunctional computer with thousands and thousands of songs on shuffle, much like my ipod.

  5. Damn – “What's Up” could have been the prime inspiration for this post if I was really thinking. It's been probably 10 years since I've heard that song, and I still never want to hear it again.

BTW – to clarify – this would not be “horrible DJ requests” – but horrible requests made to DJs by listeners. Your average DJ isn't sitting around just dying to play “Enter Sandman.”

  6. The fist song that came to mind here is “Radar Love” – Golden Earring. All copies of this song should be destroyed, except for the one they use to torture the terrorists.

  7. I would agree with that, and add “Hair of the Dog” by Nazareth and “Ballroom Blitz” by Sweet to your list as well.

  8. Hell yeah. The Sound is fantastic! Trying to figure out if I can stream them on my Blackberry!

  9. Every time I flip past the oldies station, they're playing “Hotel California.” First of all, that is not an oldie, because if that's an oldie, then so am I. Second of all, that song should have been obliterated when Congress ordered all of the Eagles master tapes erased in 1982. Wait, they didn't do that? Well why the hell not?

  10. Please ad “Alright Now” by Free. That song has got to be the most overplayed ever! It was even overplayed back in the late 70's!

  11. Wait a second. Did you just bash Journey? Oh my god, you totally did. What's your beef with Journey and their vast catalog of jams?
