Dear Columbus,
Neil Diamond loves you, he really does.
In fact, he apologizes profusely for the really crummy show you saw the other night. He knows that it really hurt to talk to your friends in Cleveland the next morning, who made sure to tell you how great the Cleveland show was.
It’s all good, because Neil is going to give you a refund, all 11,000 of you. Because you and Neil, you’re like brothers from another mother.
The all-out refund shocked even the concert’s promoter, with Scott Stienecker saying “I’ve sat through Vince Neil falling-down drunk before. I’ve sat through Bob Dylan not even acknowledging that there was a crowd, and neither of those artists refunded the fans.”
So stop your sobbing C-Bus, it’s going to be okay.
P.S. – can I borrow ten bucks?
Neil Diamond in Columbus
I grew up on Neil Diamond and I was at the Cleveland show with my mom. He was indeed fantastic, and I felt so bad for the Columbus folks when I heard that news.
Is it better to not do the show or do it and hope people don’t demand a refund because you were having throat issues?
I had not heard about this. That is great he is going to give refunds. I wish more artists would do that, I know some of them can’t give funds for sucking just to begin with.
Kristen – I’m jealous…I was supposed to go to the Cleve show…and it fell through at the last minute.
Personally, I’d rather have the show cancelled. I’ve had quite a few experiences where someone I REALLY wanted to see, comes walking out, and does an apology in advance for being under the weather, and usually they say something like “we’re going to do our best tonight.”
Which usually translates to a show that is painful to watch and listen to. Often times, they’re going ahead with the show because they know they won’t be able to reschedule it later in the tour.
I’ve had that happen a few times, for shows that I took a road trip to, which is a real bummer when you have driven 5-6 hours to see a show!!
I love Neil though – cool and classy dude – and this latest episode proves what a good dude he is.
Jose –
HA!
That is incredible he did that. If that YouTube video is from the Columbus show then I can see why he felt the show was bad… Good job Neil Diamond.
I remember seeing Dinsaur Jr. at the Agora. Worst show ever. The treble was up way too high and I could not hear J. Mascus’ singing at all…terrible. The show was just feedback, I could not believe they played through their set.
No refunds. Plenty of bad memories and temporary hearing loss though.
