Wilco and Death Cab open for Neil Young this fall + my own personal love letter to cereal.

Oh Neil, why so serious?

I meant to blog about a few things at the end of yesterday, but last night ended up being a late night. I had a social engagement after work, and as I was making my exit, I looked at my phone, and I had two missed calls/voicemails to return, in addition to one followup call that I was already planning to make.

What did we do before cell phones? I guess we spent less time on the phone, that’s what I’m thinking.

End result, I went to bed late, and there was no time for planned blogging….so let’s fix that, right now!

Let them have Wilco!

My friend/co-worker Jeremy reminded me of one particular item that I was excited about – yesterday’s announcement that Neil Young will take Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco out on the road this fall as opening acts.

Now unfortunately, we won’t get to see them both together: Death Cab will tour with Young from October 14th-November 5th, and Wilco will join Young from November 29th through the end of the year, although there is a question mark for Wilco’s homebase of Chicago, with no opener currently listed for that date.

One could guess that the Chicago date might conflict with pre-existing plans that Wilco might have for a hometown show, although the band’s website reveals no visible conflicts.

Luckily for me, the tour is skipping Cleveland, which will make it possible for me to take advantage of the cheap price of gas, and drive elsewhere to catch a show! Detroit looks like the winning candidate at this point, and with the number of shows I’m planning to catch in Detroit over the next few months, perhaps I’ll just relocate there until the rock stops 🙂

(I’ll neither confirm nor deny that the previous paragraph may have contained elements of sarcasm.)

I’m guessing that Wilco will continue to preview new material from the new album they’re currently working on. That’s reason enough for a road trip right there in my book!

Pass that cereal over here, will ya?

After a couple of months reading cereal-related posts from my fellow Cleveland bloggers Mel and Todd, I finally took the plunge tonight and bought my first box of cereal in about a year and a half.

Now it’s very likely that there are people that read that, and shuddered at the thought of going even a few days without cereal, but I am living proof that it happens.

My cereal faves in no particular order:

Corn Pops
Fruity Pebbles
Froot Loops
Cap’n Crunch
Raisin Bran
Golden Grahams
Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Although I was leaning towards longtime favorite/always reliable Corn Pops, I took the plunge and went for the tear the heck out of the roof of your mouth goodness that is Cap’n Crunch.

Came home, had three bowls.

Happy.

  1. are you sure Raisin Bran belongs in there or was that a typo? i do not think there is enough sugar in that kind of cereal for you to handle!

  2. Can you drive to the Detroit show? I can’t drive stick.

    LOL.

RE: Raisin Bran – you know me well. I’m not sure why it works, but it works.

  3. as i sit and read this, i’m snacking (read: not complete with milk) on lucky charms, thanks to kelly and jose for putting that idea in my mind. i had to go out and buy it.

btw, i CANNOT imagine going that long without cereal. i don’t know when the last time I went without it for more than two days. it is, a part of my life.

  4. GOOD GOD, MATT! a YEAR! What is the matta with you?? I won’t knock your Raisin Bran selection because I have to eat an entire box of Special K Red Berries every week. Fiber, berries… it’s a nice break from the sugar high sometimes (especially when I get a craving before bed).

re: What did we do without cell phones? We had “meeting spots” at bars and clubs when we lost our friends.

Really shitty friends didn’t come back until the end of the night. LOL

  5. Although I have not tried it yet — I have been told I must check out Total Cinnamon Toast Crunch 🙂 Supposedly it doesn’t get soggy quite as fast and of course is much better for you*

  6. Kelly – that’s the first I’m hearing about that one….I’ll have to check it out!!

Todd – I think that’s one of the things I appreciated about your original cereal blogging……appreciating cereal as a snack – NO milk….some people just don’t understand that. It’s one of my favorite snacks.

Mel – RE: meeting spots…lol…and you’re right about the crummy friends….they definitely outted themselves by not coming back until the end of the night……

I’m not sure what it is about Raisin Bran…I’ve always been a fan….it was the closest thing to unhealthy tasting cereal when my mom wouldn’t let me get the “sugary garbage” growing up!

  7. Burg – I saw your review before you left this comment!

I’m bummed I missed them when they were here in Cleveland…so much rock and roll, and so little time, sometimes!
