Random Video: Undercover Karaoke with Jewel

It's time for another true confession - back in '95 or so, I had a major thing for Jewel.  It wasn't just that she was "hot," from my point of view - I also happened to really like her music.  And by association, Jewel's music led me to discover the music of Steve Poltz (her boyfriend at the time) and The Rugburns (who sincerely are one of the greatest bands ever - give me a reunion show sometime/anytime in Cleveland, please!).

I'm not sure where Jewel and I got off track, but it was probably sometime around the time that she released her Christmas album (you know, the one with the Xmas version of "Hands"? Ugh!).  She put on a helluva good live show back in the day, and as this video clip below proves, she's still pretty awesome, even if you don't know that it is actually *Jewel* providing the awesomeness.

New Release Update: “Dreamhouse,” the new album from Steve Poltz

Good news for Steve Poltz fans - the former Rugburns frontman (and co-writer of Jewel's "You Were Meant For Me") recently unleashed his latest CD, titled Dreamhouse, on the unsuspecting masses.  The new album is available now on CD or digital download, and there's a vinyl pressing on the way!

Steve Poltz - Dreamhouse

From Steve:

My new CD is done cookin'. It's ready for order right here on this very website. I went to Halifax, Nova Scotia and met award winning producer/ songwriter Joel Plaskett and formed a strong bond. We decided to make a record at his studio in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Recorded analog on 16 track 2 inch tape it has the "Dreamhouse" sound. It'll also be available on vinyl (yes! a record!) in a few more weeks.

The artwork was done by a Halifax artist named Rebecca Kraatz. Check out her website. She did a work for hire for me. Crazy cool woodburn art.

Check out song samples for all of the tracks via Amazon.

Here's "Dog In Bosnia" from the live session that Steve recorded for Daytrotter this past December.

Twitter folks can follow Steve on Twitter @stevepoltz.  Poltz recently broke his left hand, but as you might expect, broken hand or no broken hand, the Poltz promotional machine rolls on, with all tour dates proceeding as scheduled.

Poltz will celebrate the new CD AND his 50th birthday with a special show on Friday night at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, CA, featuring Poltz, a special reunion set from The Rugburns, and Mojo Nixon!

Closer to home, Steve Poltz will be back in Cleveland for another show at the Beachland on Tuesday, April 6th.

Good Listening: Steve Poltz at Daytrotter

Kudos to Jeff Giles for hipping me to the just-posted Daytrotter Session with Steve Poltz.  Anybody who knows Poltz will know that he doesn't mess around, so while some artists might play an unreleased song or two for Daytrotter, Steve played nine.

As I said on Twitter, if you're not hip to Poltz - get hip!  Start with The Rugburns, and buy everything!  My personal favorite solo disc from Poltz is One Left Shoe, his initial dip into non-Rugburns activities.  And God, how I miss The Rugburns.  I'll always remember one particular night at the Euclid Tavern where The Rugburns had been on stage for about 3 hours+ at the point that we decided to call it a night - and they were still going!

Check out some vintage video of The Rugburns below!
