The Wild, The Innocent and the Bruce show I will not be attending

Written by: Matt Wardlaw

When Bruce Springsteen started doing the full album performance thang recently with a performance of Born to Run in Chicago, a few of us conversed about the albums that we'd really like to see him perform.

You know the ones I'm talking about - The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle, and Greetings From Asbury Park - two great albums that would elicit a full-on fan freakout, but unfortunately they're not exactly the A-list albums that would drive ticket sales.

Still, it was a fun thought.

And now, a thought that at least partially will become reality for the fans attending this weekend's shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Touch, Peel, and Hate this Song

Written by: Matt Wardlaw

I have an idea for a little bit of audience participation. As you know, we're all about the audience participation here at Addicted to Vinyl!

I'd like your help in making a special mix of annoying songs that you never want to hear on the radio, ever again. Now, these might be good songs, they might be crummy songs, and what they all have in common is that they have been overplayed to the point that your ears bleed just thinking about them.

rushband

Here are some sample cuts to get you going:

Days of the New "Touch, Peel, & Stand"

Alice in Chains "Man in the Box"

Marcy Playground "Sex and Candy"

AC/DC "Highway to Hell"

Rush "Working Man"

Metallica "Enter Sandman"

Pink Floyd "Another Brick In The Wall"

I'll admit, there are some classics on that list. But aren't there also other cuts on some of those albums that you'd rather hear?

Discuss.

P.S.

Any DJ will tell you the awful truth that people really do call to request/hear these songs, almost as if they're new!

Yeah maaaan, I've got a reee-quest, can you play "Man In The Box" by Alice in Chains?

What the hell?

Hold On….Wilson Phillips is coming back

Written by: Matt Wardlaw

Wilson Phillips on the cover of the Rolling Stone

In 1990, I don't think that I could have predicted that one day I'd be reading about a Wilson Phillips reunion via something called "the internet" on a website called The Music Slut.

Am I a music slut too?

The Music Slut led me to an article at FemaleFirst featuring a short interview with Carnie Wilson. In the article, we are handed the following factoid:

The band is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (09) with a series of gigs across America.

That's right, 20th anniversary. So that means that the inevitable 20th Anniversary Wilson Phillips box set is undoubtedly on the way. You know, the one with four CDs, a coffeetable book, and vintage live concert on DVD or Blu-Ray.

It's gotta happen, right?

Perhaps I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself. For now, plan on the opportunity to see the girls play a few shows. You're either delighted or horrified by this prospect. I'll let you think about that one for a bit...
