Random Youtube: Richard Marx – A career rewind

Written by:

The other day in the office, we discovered with horror that a couple of our younger co-workers were unfamiliar with "No Reply At All" by Genesis. This is hardly a new thing - a few years ago, I went to see Howard Jones with a friend and her boyfriend and at the conclusion, we walked out of the show and he admitted that he hadn't recognized a single one of Howard's hit records.  It's sad but true, we might be getting old.

But that doesn't mean that we can't educate the youngsters about the old-timers that are still here and making good music. Enter: Mr. Richard Marx.

Back From Hell: A Tribute to Sam Kinison

Written by:

Frankly, with Why Did We Laugh? already on the market, I wasn't quite sure that the world really needed another "documentary" style film about Sam Kinison. But as a longtime Kinison nut, I had to see it and I'm glad that I did. While the various talking heads (from Denis Leary to Lewis Black) don't add anything extremely interesting (although brother Bill Kinison has a great Billy Idol story regarding the "Wild Thing" video), the classic Kinison standup footage makes Back From Hell: A Tribute to Sam Kinison must-see material.

Like Why Did We Laugh?, there's plenty of footage from many of the Kinison videos/specials that have been well circulated through the years. But predictably, there's also a good amount of "previously unseen" standup footage from the Kinison archives and it makes this tribute special a power hour of viewing for Kinison fans.  All of the classic bits are here (move to where the food is!) and Back From Hell exposes once again what a unique comic talent Sam Kinison was and it's another reminder of how much his presence is missed.

Back From Hell premieres tonight at 10pm on Comedy Central. The uncut/uncensored DVD will be in stores on Tuesday.

Random Video: Undercover Karaoke with Jewel

Written by:

It's time for another true confession - back in '95 or so, I had a major thing for Jewel.  It wasn't just that she was "hot," from my point of view - I also happened to really like her music.  And by association, Jewel's music led me to discover the music of Steve Poltz (her boyfriend at the time) and The Rugburns (who sincerely are one of the greatest bands ever - give me a reunion show sometime/anytime in Cleveland, please!).

I'm not sure where Jewel and I got off track, but it was probably sometime around the time that she released her Christmas album (you know, the one with the Xmas version of "Hands"? Ugh!).  She put on a helluva good live show back in the day, and as this video clip below proves, she's still pretty awesome, even if you don't know that it is actually *Jewel* providing the awesomeness.

The Michael Bolton School of Michael Bolton

Written by:

I got a good laugh from this, and thought that you all would probably enjoy it too.  I'll admit it -  I'm a Bolton fan and it's always cool to see a celebrity that can have fun at their own expense.  Kudos to Jimmy Fallon er, Kimmel for another winner!

Thanks to AZ for the share!

The only reason that this isn't real, is because Steve Perry hasn't thought of it.  Yet.  Thanks to Kurt for this one!

Hey man, is that AC/DC? Yeah man. Well turn-it-up man!

Written by:

Oh my God, it's like we opened up the souls of a thousand rock and rolls.....

If the Freedom Rock guys from the 80's were around today in 2009 promoting the new AC/DC rarities box set Backtracks, I'm thinking it would look something like this video featuring Billy and George of AC/DC FanNation.

Hilarious.
