My pal Si Twining runs the popular Bruce Hornsby site Bruuuce.com, an invaluable resource of informational riches for Hornsby fans. From setlists to Hornsby news information to the chance to interact with other Bruce fans, there's always something good to be had at Si's website.
One of the more popular features of the site is the 'Daily Dose,' a daily Hornsby live cut sourced from a huge variety of Hornsby concert performances captured over the years....all the way to present day recordings posted only a few days after they happen!
Twining has built the 'Daily Dose' into a yearly event called Daily Dose Day in which he sits at his computer for 24 hours straight posting a new download each hour from midnight until midnight. Donations are invited if the music moves you to do so and all proceeds raised go to charity.
This year, Si is raising the stakes for 'Daily Dose Day' by posting FIVE tracks per hour from five different artists - Bruce, Dave Matthews, Phish, Bela Fleck and The Grateful Dead! The funds raised from this year's 'Dose' will go to benefit the ALS Association and the NSPCC for abused children in the UK.
Daily Dose Day is THIS MONDAY and 125 performances will be posted throughout the day. Si also has a great collection of prizes that have been donated by a variety of artists including the latest donation from Ricky Skaggs. Additionally, Twining says "brush up on your Google Maps and also Google Street View, as we'll be going on a treasure hunt! Big surprises on the day too, so please make sure you're there on the day!"
ALS (more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease) is something that the Hornsby fan community is unfortunately quite familiar with. Hornsby's longtime assistant Melissa Smith passed away in 2010 after battling ALS and a concert that Hornsby had been scheduled to play as a benefit for the local ALS association gained additional significance with her passing.
Si's work in the past few years has raised over $15,000 for Multiple Sclerosis care, Cancer Research and the ALS Association. It's a true labor of love and I encourage you to support it.
Read more information about Daily Dose Day here and check out this link to download the 2007 downloads which will be online for the next 24 hours until the event officially kicks off at midnight on Monday!zero

Checking out this Nirvana poster at Bear's Cleveland Rock and Roll page sent me off on a random Google search looking for 'Empire Concert Club' stuff and that's how I came across this audio of Nirvana's performance there. I think I've seen these clips in the past but I didn't listen to them, because I assumed the quality was probably not even worth listening to, but surprisingly, these clips sound really good!
On a semi-related note, Foo Fighters announced a Cleveland show today - they'll be at Quicken Loans Arena on September 20th with Rise Against opening. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am. Color me very stoked!more
