I had the great pleasure of speaking with longtime Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux this past week for an interview that will be online soon. How soon? As soon as my fingers can do the transcribing work! Lemieux is currently knee deep in the assembly work for the highly anticipated 72 CD release of Europe ’72, a massive package that brings together all 22 original shows recorded for the original Europe ’72 release in their entirety, including overdub-free versions of the original album tracks for the first time ever!
As work continues on the package, the Dead camp have been sharing the occasional taste of the upcoming package with three free MP3s released to date. And now you can add a fourth to the mix – “Casey Jones,” as recorded on April 11th, 1972 in Newcastle, England. Capping off the first set, which stretched out 18 tracks deep, this version of “Casey” does a mighty fine job of bringing the train back to the station for a brief pause.
