The always awesome Patti Rothberg has a new album out called Overnight Sensation. Now, if you’ve paid attention here, you’ll know that I’m an uber-Patti fan, so while I knew that she had something coming out eventually, I didn’t realize that the moment had arrived! Patti will celebrate the release of the album with a CD release “pajama party” tomorrow night in the NYC area (attendees are invited to “dress to impress with your finest pajamas”), but for those of you outside of that zone, the album is available right now on CD and MP3 download from CDBaby.
There’s a good reason that I’m not listening to the album as I write this – getting back to what we just talked about, there are certain artists that I still want to own the actual album and Patti is one of those artists. So I guess I’ll be patient and wait for the actual CD to show up in my mailbox.
You can always count on Patti to change things up and indeed from listening to the song samples, the first half of the album sounds like a Madonna-worthy dance party, which initially made me think that Rothberg had made a really big shift in direction. But surprise, vinyl fans, it seems that Patti assembled this project with a vision of album sides and when you make it to the flip side midway through the record, things seem to shift in a direction that Rothberg fans will be more familiar with.
