The term “good listening” takes on a bit of a different definition for this particular show. The sound quality is far from pristine – this is a “bootleg” straight out in every sense of the word. But take a look at that setlist and tell me that your heart doesn’t ache for either a proper Georgia Satellites reunion, or a feasible way to go back in time to catch a few more gigs on the 1988 tour for In The Land of Salvation & Sin Open All Night? (Thanks to Jefito, the other Satellites fan on the internet for pointing out my timeline faux pas!)
Wow, what a setlist they threw down on this night in Austin, with guests in the audience including Mr. Ronnie Lane of the Faces and also Tom and Fred from Cinderella. Cinderella were due to play a show in Austin the next night and spent the night prior to their own show taking in the Satellites set. No matter what your opinion of Cinderella might be, you’ll have to admit that they’ve got excellent taste in music! And they helped to cap off a hot night in Austin by climbing on stage with the Sats to roll through “Rock Me Baby.”
Two hours and nine minutes worth of smoldering rock and roll in the Lone Star State, captured by primitive recording technology that fits the rock and roll spirit of this show just fine. Half the fun of listening to this recording is hearing the band on stage and the other part of the fun comes from hearing the play by play of the crowd as the evening progresses.
All praise goes to the original taper for preserving this night of rock and roll history and sharing it all of these years later…

Matt, you ignorant slut. “Salvation and Sin” didn’t come out until the fall of ’89 — this was on the tour for the album named after your mom.
You know, I always goof this one up. I want to put “Salvation” in 1988.
Well played, Giles 🙂
