It’s morning time.
I wake up, surf a bit through the new posts in my Google Reader, and notice a new post from Slicing Up Eyeballs (those guys again!) regarding a new INXS greatest hits compilation.
Now, while I would normally tune out and move on, I have to read it, because I’m a crazy nut for all things INXS. I don’t need another INXS greatest hits compilation – because I’ve already got three of them – but as it turns out, I do need this one.
Platinum: Greatest Hits screams “crappy needless repackaging of a bunch of stuff that I’ve already got,” and for 16 tracks, that sentiment rings true. But then, you notice the rest of the contents – a double live album titled Seriously Live (wait…didn’t Phil Collins already use that one?) – 26 live tracks hand picked (of course they were) by the surviving members of INXS and longtime band associate Chris Murphy.
Witness:
This 42 track album contains not just the bands exceptional hits such as Devil Inside, Need You Tonight, Suicide Blonde and Never Tear Us Apart but also contains 26 live tracks that have been dug from the vaults and re-mastered from INXS live shows that span 30 years of playing to millions and millions of fans around the globe. These live songs include memorable moments at concerts when the band performed The Loved One, Mystify, Original Sin, What You Need and New Sensation but also rare live moments with the band and songs such as One x One, Just Keep Walking and By My Side.
Oh hell YES.
Platinum: Greatest Hits was released as an Australian Itunes digital exclusive yesterday (4/20), and will be released in the UK on May 4th. There’s been no word regarding a potential U.S. release date or physical CD release.
Thanks to my good man Judd from the 6149, I got my hands on the release late yesterday – if you’re an INXS fan, you’re going to love this release to pieces. It is odd for sure to see several huge INXS cuts missing from the greatest hits portion of this disc, while album cuts like “Baby Don’t Cry” from Welcome To Wherever You Are are present. But really, you won’t be purchasing this for the hits – the live album portion is where it’s at with this release – and you can’t argue with getting three discs of material for the price of a single disc!
I’m hoping to dig up more details regarding the individual live tracks, but for now, feast your eyes on this track listing:
