Record Store Day 2010 – This Saturday!

For those of you that inexplicably haven’t been to your favorite local indie record store since Record Store Day last year, guess what?  It’s time to do it all again!

This Saturday, music fans will once again congregate at record stores throughout the United States and the UK to celebrate Record Store Day, with a number of limited/exclusive releases to choose from to celebrate the occasion.  For a complete list of the exclusive titles available, check out the official Record Store Day website.

R.E.M. Chronic Town

For me personally, I’d love the reissue of R.E.M.’s Chronic Town on blue vinyl (*drool*), and of course the expanded vinyl box set for Wilco’s Kicking Television, making its debut on Record Store Day with bonus tracks and additional Wilco swag thrown in.  And twist my arm, I’d like the Springsteen 10″ vinyl single for Wrecking Ball (live)/The Ghost of Tom Joad (live) as well.

Here in Cleveland, the “vinyl district” will be humming as per usual, with Music Saves, Blue Arrow Records, and This Way Out all opening their doors for the festivities at noon.  Here are some additional details from the award-winning Music Saves email newsletter:

Blue Arrow will have a handful of Record Store Day releases, and This Way Out is offering 10% off records all day!

The Beachland Tavern will open at noon with food and drinks.

The Salty not Sweet Craft Show begins at noon.

All of Waterloo is getting involved in Record Store Day, so check out our website for all of the details!

MUSIC SAVES EVENTS:

4-5:30pm White Hinterland DJ set at MUSIC SAVES
White Hinterland just put out a gorgeous record on Dead Oceans, and we’re honored that they’ll be hanging out in the store for Record Store Day.
They will also perform later that night with Dosh and The Sleeps in the Tavern.

Once again we’ve teamed up with our friends at Blue Arrow Records to curate an evening of non-stop FREE live music:

5pm – Will Rigby DJs at Blue Arrow
Will was a member of The dB’s, and also plays drums for Steve Earle.

5:30 – The Lighthouse and the Whaler at MUSIC SAVES
They’ll be performing outside in their natural element.

6pm – Prisoners at Blue Arrow
Have you seen this ramshackle bunch yet? They’re somehow getting tighter AND looser. They’ll get your heart rate up.

6:30 – The Muttering Retreats at MUSIC SAVES
Timployee’s band! Upbeat indie pop as the sun starts to set.

7pm – Tasty Cakes at Blue Arrow
Oh man, get ready for some fun. Their shows are always a blast.

7:30 – Cloud Nothings at MUSIC SAVES
They’re blowin’ up, and for good reason. See what all the well warranted fuss is about.

Check out MusicSaves.Com or BlueArrowRecords.Com for more details!  I’ll leave you with another kick ass poster from Cleveland artist John G.
