Music Dish: Peter Gabriel won’t reunite with Genesis at Rock Hall induction

While he didn’t completely rule it out, it seems unlikely that Peter Gabriel will perform with his former band mates when Genesis is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15th. Here’s an excerpt from Gabriel’s interview on the subject that appears in the next issue of Rolling Stone:

“As far as I know, I’m definitely not going to sing,” Gabriel tells Rolling Stone. “I learned at our last reunion [in 1982] that you can’t just get up there. You have to rehearse.” Gabriel is actually not even positive he’ll be able to attend the March 15th induction ceremony in New York, since he’ll be in the midst of rehearsing for a European solo tour. “I’m trying to find a way to do it,” he says. “It’s not easy. If I can work it out, I’ll go.”

Gabriel shares some additional information about the band’s most recent (unsuccessful) attempt at a reunion as well – check more from Rolling Stone right here.

I’m bummed, but not completely surprised.  For now, fans can check out Scratch My Back, a new orchestrally based covers album that will be Gabriel’s first studio release in seven years.  PG will play select shows in support of the release (although like the album, Gabriel will be backed by an orchestra with “no drums, no guitars”), including some possible U.S. dates.

Here’s the album cover for Scratch My Back, pictured below.

  1. I'm fairly certain that album cover is a vagina. I've never seen a back quite like that. So, yeah, “Scratch My Vagina” seems more appropriate. But what in the world is the connection to covers? Hmmm…

In other news, I am disappointed that Gabriel will not be joining Genesis to perform. I'm not all that interested in *more* Phil Collins. Is he slated to perform? Because “technically” there is not Genesis without Collins either, right?
