New Music: Saintseneca
Got this in email and as one that leans hard towards good folk/alt-country/Americana stuff, I had to share it with the ATV nation. I'm not sure if there is a "nation," but I'm going with it.

Saintseneca is a folk band from Columbus, Ohio, but "folk" doesn't capture the passion, potential and joy in their music. The band might say they play folk songs, at least as an idiom, but the real magic behind their twangy banjo, percussive dulcimer and floating violin is the sudden symphonies of sound created with layers of voices, stomps, claps and trash cans. The arrangements within this 4-song 7" vinyl/digital EP, combine to create complex music with simple instruments while presenting complex subjects in common language. The live show makes you want to find the the nearest surface to begin beating along, which has spontaneously happened at recent summer sweat-soaked shows in basements, all-ages clubs, alleyways and under bridges. Much like their live show, their debut 7" is strangely transfixing and over way too soon.
California based indie label Paper Brigade have a new Saintseneca release out today - a four song digital EP that also is available as a limited pressing of 300 copies on colored vinyl. The EP is the first proper release for Saintseneca, and the fourth release overall for Paper Brigade.
The sample MP3 below is a cruel tease - I can't wait to hear more from these guys!

Cleveland music fans - catch Saintseneca performing live in Kent on September 12th, as part of the Do It Together (DIT) Fest. DIT Fest features a mix of poets and musicians on September 11th and 12th with additional performances from a wide array of artists, including ATV friend Nicholas Megalis, and American War, among many others.
