I’m hungry for the green mind

In the midst of an otherwise crazy busy day, I caught a Twitter update from TMZ referencing “Hungry Bloodshot Eyes” and had this sinking feeling that it was Eric Carmen related.

Remember that ’80s song “Hungry Eyes”? The guy who recorded it was busted in an epic DUI.

Oh man, I’m thinking they must have JUST picked up on the story of his DUI from last year.

And then as I’m reading it, I start to realize that it looks like a fresh DUI for Carmen.

Yup.

Eric Carmen was popped Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Orange, Ohio after the dude hit a fire hydrant. The first clue he was wasted — when cops asked him for his ID, he handed them a credit card. Cops then found a half-empty bottle of Grey Goose in the front seat.

A fresh DUI, and a fresh mug shot too.

Here’s the Cleveland.com story complete with audience participation in the comments section – i.e. pretty much the whole reason you’ll want to click over and read this.

Who are Eric’s friends that are letting him drive away with a bottle of Grey Goose in the front seat?

Time to get new friends!

As a child of the 80s, “Hungry Eyes” (video) was right there in my list of favorites next to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” (video) the song that introduced me to Mr. Cool himself, Bill Medley. Connect both of those songs to a movie starring my 80s favorite Jennifer Grey, and the whole thing was an instant winner. I was even willing to let Patrick Swayze sing a song or two.

I still think that one of the biggest mistakes Jennifer Grey ever made, was losing my number. She and Molly Ringwald, they’re kicking themselves, I know it.

Carmen kept kicking ass with “Make Me Lose Control,” a track which had a video featuring Eric, Eric’s hair, and a special guest appearance by legendary Cleveland radio personality Kid Leo!

The highlight reel came to a screeching halt at that point until a few years ago when Carmen got the old band back together for some well-received shows…some band called The Raspberries.

Eric’s recent woes suggest that the best place might be back on the road with the ‘Berries, with someone else driving, of course!

Green Mind, ya’ll.

My blogging compadres Kelly and José @ Sensory Overload have been rockin’ this awesome lil weekly series called Random Retro Wednesday Song.

They’re three for three with Team Vinyl here: Week 1 featured “Eurotrash Girl” by Cracker, a solid pick.

Week 2 featured “Everlasting Love” by Howard Jones, and at this point, it feels like they’re just sucking up to me with a Howard Jones pick. I’m rubbing my eyes, hitting the refresh button on the website, and sure enough, they really picked a Howard Jones track.

And they mentioned Martika. “Toy Soldiers” sure, but give me “More Than You Know.” (video)

For Howard Jones, I mighta picked “The Prisoner,” and in fact, since it is Wednesday as I am typing this, I guess I just did!

Watching this video, and the video that K & J posted for “Everlasting Love,” I start to remember the cool bizarro videos that HoJo made back in the day.

*Sigh*

This brings us to week number 3 of Random Retro Wednesday Song, and another great pick by my favorite blogging dynamic duo. “Green Mind” by Dink.

I know that you Clevelanders just let out a huge HELL yeah, when you read those four words. For the rest of you non-Clevelanders that just blinked with indifference or confusion, go read up on “Green Mind,” and take a listen to what you mighta missed.

  1. So eventhough what you all are discussing has nothing to do with what I blog about,I was purusing your posts and felt it imperative to add a new voice into the conversation. As an 80’s baby I supped each of the groups, artists, and songs mentioned above. Still, I must say that conspicously missing from the discussion is Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away”. That was the them of my senior prom almost a decade ago and each time it came on, my date danced a little closer (Thank you Tom Whitlock & Gi0rgio Moroder ).

I’m not an expert just a fan that loves 80’s music.

  2. I too thought that they were just repeating he got a DUI a couple years back. I then got to see the video of his sobriety test on Fox 8 news conducted by the wonderful Orange Village officers…. He failed. While in the cruiser the dash cam caught him saying he was having problems with his wife. I kind of felt back for him.
