Good Listening: New album from David Byrne/Brian Eno now available + The Replacements and Golden Smog

David Byrne - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today

A few weeks ago, in one of the more brilliant PR moves of the year, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne quietly launched a new website www.everythingthathappens.com to announce his new solo tour, and a forthcoming album collaboration with Brian Eno.

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, the new album from Byrne and Eno, is now available in a variety of formats, including instant downloads in DRM-Free MP3 or FLAC format, physical CD (which will ship in November,) and a very cool limited edition CD package.

David Byrne limited CD package

If the above CD is seriously as three-dimensional as it appears via the picture, I would hope that they’ll win some award from somebody for REALLY cool packaging.

The limited edition package includes four bonus songs, a short film about the album, a hardcover book, and additional materials.

You can stream the entire album right here:

Byrne’s tour will be in Cleveland on October 23rd – and as an 80s kid that grew up with visions of Byrne in the big suit, I’d love to see the show!

I think the whole presentation and rollout of this album is very smart – Digital files are priced at $8.99 for MP3 or FLAC, and you can add a CD to the MP3 download for only $3.00 more.

Topspin Media are behind the rollout, and former Yahoo Music head Ian Rogers is at the helm as CEO for the company.

Fun fact: Topspin Co-founder Peter Gotcher helped make Pro-Tools an industry standard during his time at Digi-Design.

Rogers details the behind-the-scenes stuff involved in the Byrne/Eno release on his blog with lots of those pretty pictures that you all love.

To say we were excited at the prospect of helping David Byrne and Brian Eno release their new album would be an understatement. Not only are we huge fans of their recorded output both together and apart, but their previous collaboration under the same moniker, the pre-sampling cut/paste masterpiece My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts was one of the inspirations Topspin co-founder/chairman Peter Gotcher drew upon when creating ProTools with his team at Digidesign. Having the opportunity to help Byrne and Eno release their album direct to fans on Topspin’s platform was too fateful an opportunity to pass up. We jumped, to say the least.

  1. I really enjoyed the Holding Patter Screen Saver found in the deluxe release, it was a perfect visual match to the music. The new album is great, and it was released in a very unique way. I love that you can stream the album and share it with everyone.
