Tonight’s events are being presented in Living Stereo

Howard the Duck, yo!

You know those days/nights where you’re about to go out of town, and you have about 10 million things to get done?

That was my day yesterday, as I was preparing to go to Baltimore for Virgin Festival 2008 (more on that, in a bit.)

I had to take care of regular work obligations, additional obligations for BOTH of my side jobs, pack for the trip, AND I had an appearance for the radio station last night at Roc Bar in the Flats.

Last night was the launch of a new local concert series that will happen on the first Thursday of each month at Roc Bar. The band for the first night (last night) was Living Stereo, one of my personal favorite bands on the Cleveland scene right now.

I first saw Living Stereo opening for The Pretenders in 2006, and assumed that they were touring with The Pretenders. I was shocked to find out that they were a local band.

Since then, I’ve seen them play on a variety of great local shows, including a great double bill with The Black Diamonds (now The Suede Brothers.)

Living Stereo are always a good time and they’re trained experts at bringing the rock, no matter what bill they are playing on.

Last night was no exception, complete with destruction at the end of the night, as Living Stereo bass player Jeff Deasy did his best to completely dismantle drummer Brian Moon’s drum kit.

Unfortunately, the crowd was nonexistent….and why is that, you ask?

Well, it breaks down like this:

First pre-season Browns home game of the season + hellfire/damnation worthy torrential downpour = no people.

The Roc Bar people were awesome though, and I met former Free Times / current Scene writer Jara Anton, who if you enjoy her reading….she’s even MORE of a riot in person.

Seriously.

And if you haven’t read any of her stuff yet, check out The Un-Boyfriend.

Awesome.

I saw her Lost Boys II t-shirt, and knew that she’d be a cool chick. We talked a bit about the new Lost Boys movie (she hasn’t seen it yet either,) which I am dying to see.

I’m not looking for cinematic genius here, I’m just glad they had the guts to make a sequel after all of this time.

Speaking of that, I talked to my rock and roll buddy Corey a couple of nights back, and we caught up on all things rock and roll from Motley Crue to Poison, and yes, even more Lost Boys II discussion.

Eventually the conversation morphed into a Lost Boys related discussion and subsequent agreement that License to Drive (with Haim and Feldman) is STILL one of our favorite movies of all time.

Corey’s review of The Lost Boys II was mixed at best. Anybody seen it? Weigh in!

One more random movie note: Talking to my friends Brian and Adam, Adam was talking about dubbing a VHS copy of Howard the Duck to DVD.

“That’s good, because it’s not like you can get THAT one on DVD,” was my sarcastic comment.

“You can’t.”

What the hell? How could Howard the Duck not be available on DVD?

Tonight: I’m bummed that I’ll miss a blogger get-together with Mel, Taaawd, and others….but happy to know that they’re going to try for a monthly get-together! I’ll catch ya on the next go-around!!

Onward to Baltimore!
