A week before Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band took the stage for a string of homecoming shows at Giants Stadium, my comrade Chris Akin got a chance to talk with E. Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren.

Lofgren spoke with Chris about his new CD The Loner: Nils sings Neil, a wonderful new solo release featuring Lofgren’s interpretations of a selection of his favorite songs from the vast Neil Young catalog.

Recorded solo on piano and guitar, Lofgren recorded 30 tracks, and eventually whittled the recorded tracks down to the 15 tracks that appear on the album.

Chris and Nils discuss Lofgren’s work with both Young and Springsteen, and also his long-running career outside of the E. Street Band as a solo artist.
