It don’t take money…..

So I was catching up yesterday on about a month's worth of Pop Candy, and came across the following link of greatness, brought to us by the fine folks at Stereogum.
It seems that Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen felt that Huey Lewis would have the goods to deliver a new soundtrack smash ala "Power of Love" for today's movie generation....and hearing the recorded results, I'd say that Huey and the News hit the mark....and then some!
The title track for The Pineapple Express is in a word, FUN.
Listen here and hear the fun for yourself.
Album-wise, Huey Lewis and the News delivered good listening a few years back with the Plan B album, and with their Pineapple Express contribution, Huey and crew have contributed a song that truly should register with all Huey Lewis fans, and do the job of creating a new generation of fans.
It's a great song that sounds classic, and it's a GOOD classic that doesn't sound like a "written for a check" classic.

I'll cross my fingers that perhaps "Pineapple Express" will make the appropriate folks take notice....you know, the kind with deep pockets, that can get the band into the studio to make a new album!
Speaking of Huey....
I don't know how I missed this, but while Huey Lewis and the News were in Japan playing dates with Chicago this past April, Huey did a little bit of moonlighting. Specifically, he joined Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters on stage for a blues jam.....Huey Lewis and the Foos!

A couple of other things......and speaking of soundtracks:
I was reading a review by Jeff Giles for the new (not really) Big Blue Ball project by Peter Gabriel and Karl Wallinger (World Party) that is in stores after sitting on the shelf for a number of years.
I dig the Big Blue Ball album...but that's not what this is really about. While reading the review, I learned that Peter Gabriel has a couple of songs on the soundtrack for the new movie Wall-E.
And at least one of those songs, "Down to Earth," is pretty darn good!
Peter Gabriel - Down to Earth
Gabriel has good history with soundtracks....just take a look at "Lovetown" from the Philadelphia soundtrack.
Wall-E looks good, a flick that might be targeted towards the younger audience, but certainly like many of the animation films these days, there's a lot of stuff built in for us adults.....like songs on the soundtrack from Peter Gabriel, for example! I'm looking forward to catching it in the theater at some point soon.
As long as we're on the kids vibe, let's stay there for a mention of another CD that is on my "must purchase" radar, Camp Lisa, by Lisa Loeb. Similar to Catch The Moon, her children's CD released a few years back with longtime collaborator Elizabeth Mitchell, Camp Lisa might be a CD for the kids, but there's plenty on here that any Lisa Loeb fan will enjoy.
And as Jeff writes, it's not that far of a stretch to convert Lisa's music to being kid appropriate anyway. Some cool guests on the disc as well, including Jill Sobule, Nina Gordon (ex-Veruca Salt,) and well, some actor named Steve Martin, who shows up here with a banjo!
Camp Lisa is a Barnes and Noble exclusive, and from what I've heard so far (Best Friend in particular,) it sounds like a CD that is worth the trip.
